UNESCO co-organizes concert in tribute to Jorge Peña Hen, pioneer of youth and children's orchestras
As part of the commemorative activities of the 50th anniversary of the Coup d'Etat and the Week of Artistic Education, it will include works by Los Jaivas, Violeta Parra, among others.
With the participation of 12 ensembles and more than 450 children and young musicians belonging to the Foundation of Youth and Children's Orchestras of Chile (FOJI) and different orchestras from the north of Chile, on Saturday, July 22 at 6 p.m. in the Monumental Coliseum of La Serena, a concert will be held in tribute to Jorge Peña Hen, musician, educator, and creator of the first children's orchestra in Chile and Latin America, who was assassinated by the civic-military dictatorship on October 16, 1973.
The concert will have a repertoire directed by Juan Pablo Aguayo and Daniel Flores, which will include works by Los Jaivas, Violeta Parra, Beethoven, Mozart, Manuel Veas, and the remembered conductor Jorge Peña Hen.
Those who wish to attend the concert can pick up two tickets per person, starting Thursday, July 20 from noon, at the office of the Seremi of Cultures of the Coquimbo Region (Regidor Muñoz 362, La Serena). In addition, the event will be streamed live on the platform of the Ministry of Culture, Arts, and Heritage chilecultura.gob.cl
This massive tribute is part of the commemorative activities of the 50th anniversary of the Coup d'Etat in Chile and the Week of Artistic Education 2023, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, the Ministry of Education, FOJI, the UNESCO Office in Chile, Balmaceda Arte Joven and the University of Chile, with the support of the University of La Serena and the Municipality of La Serena.
