UNESCO & MOETE (ToT)

UNESCO Cairo organised a Training of Trainers workshop on developing digital teaching resources for 36 educators from across Egypt. Supported by the UNESCO-Huawei Technology-enabled Open Schools for All Project, the training workshop was held at the Professional Academy for Teachers (PAT) in Sixth of October City from 9 to 19 July 2023. The workshop sought to support educators representing the Ministry of Education and Technical Education (MOETE) and PAT to better integrate ICT in their teaching practice and develop locally adapted digital teaching materials.

H.E. Dr Reda Hegazy, Minister of Education and Technical Education, addressed and engaged with participants of the training. The Minister underscored the evolving role of teachers in this increasingly digital age - from conveyors of information to facilitators of learning. He emphasised the importance of empowering teachers to produce contextualised digital content in order to effectively support student learning.

In her remarks, Dr Nuria Sanz, OIC of UNESCO Cairo pledged to continue supporting the professional development of Egyptian teachers and promoting the country's achievements in the digital transformation of education. Dr Sanz likewise highlighted the designation of 2024 as the African Union Year of Education. She encouraged MOETE to lead activities in support of this momentous regional initiative, such as the hosting of an International Pan-African Meeting in Egypt.

The Minister鈥檚 visit offered an opportunity for UNESCO and MOETE to discuss cooperation around the continuous professional development of teachers, including the establishment of a UNESCO Category 2 Centre and a national competition on the development of digital teaching resources. Additionally, UNESCO urged MOETE to support the promotion of lifelong learning in Egypt through the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities.
