UNESCO and the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage of Chile call for participation in the seminar "Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Sustainable Development"

October 20 marks the National Day of Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, a day that contributes to the understanding, reflection, construction and preservation of cultural identity. In commemoration and in accordance with the , agreed on October 20, 2005, UNESCO and the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage of Chile call for participation in the seminar "Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Sustainable Development. Convention 2005".

This activity, which will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., is the initial milestone for a free Unesco training course on the 2005 Convention that will begin on November 2. The seminar on October 20 will offer an updated view at the Convention and the challenges in relation to the 2030 Agenda and the reality of Latin America and the Caribbean. It will reflect on the role of culture for sustainable development; the challenges for the strengthening and internationalization of cultural industries in developing countries; the importance of civil society participation in achieving the objectives of the Convention; and the possibilities of fostering mutual understanding and respect among different cultures through interculturality.

Together with panelists specialized in issues of cultural diversity at the national and regional level, concrete experiences for the protection and promotion of cultural diversity will be discussed, and existing limitations will be analyzed, allowing innovative proposals to be imagined.

The seminar will be held in person in Room A1 of the Gabriela Mistral Center (GAM) located at Av. Libertador Bernardo O'Higgins 227, Santiago, Chile. It will also be broadcasted through the , the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage and GAM. The activity is free of charge, subject to registration.
