The United Nations General Assembly has declared the period from 2022 to 2032 as the International Decade of Indigenous Languages, recognizing the urgent need to preserve, revitalize, and promote indigenous languages. In this context, Chile, through the Ministry of Social Development and the Indigenous Affairs Coordination Unit (UCAI), is committed to developing a Ten-Year Plan to strengthen the country's indigenous languages.

This event is the second in a series of three seminars designed to incorporate the insights of academics and experts into a National Indigenous Languages Plan. Four essential thematic areas derived from UNESCO's Global Action Plan for the International Decade of Indigenous Languages will be discussed:

• Legislation and Norms: Discussion on legislative and regulatory needs for the recognition and strengthening of indigenous languages.
• Programmatic Offerings: Evaluation of existing programmes and new proposals for linguistic revitalisation.
• Diagnosis and Studies: Methodologies for periodically assessing the state of indigenous languages.
• Dissemination and Interculturality: Strategies to promote intercultural recognition of indigenous languages.

This meeting plays a crucial role in shaping public policies aimed at not only protecting but also enriching Chile's indigenous linguistic heritage, ensuring that future generations can inherit and revitalize their ancestral languages.
