Terms of Reference: Graphic Design Services for the International Conference on Heritage Authenticity in Africa

The UNESCO Regional Office in Nairobi is organizing the International Conference on Heritage Authenticity in Africa. This event aims to celebrate African heritage, foster cultural dialogue, and highlight the region's rich and diverse cultural identity. To ensure the success and impact of the conference, we seek to engage a skilled graphic design company or individual (designer) to create a strong and compelling visual identity and event materials.

Objectives
The primary goal of this assignment is to develop a comprehensive visual package that:

  1. Represents African heritage and cultural authenticity
  2. Aligns with UNESCO鈥檚 branding guidelines
  3. Engages and informs diverse audiences and reinforces the conference鈥檚 vision

Scope of Work The selected contractor will be responsible for delivering the following:

  1. Visual Identity
    • Create a unique and culturally resonant visual identity that represents African heritage, reflects the conference鈥檚 vision and purpose and aligns with UNESCO鈥檚 branding 

       
  2. Brand Guidelines
    • Develop a comprehensive visual identity guide that incorporates UNESCO鈥檚 branding requirements, including colors, fonts, logo usage, and design principles

       
  3. Event Design
    • Design printed and digital materials such as programs, posters, flyers, banners, and other collateral that visually reflect the conference theme and messaging (ensure that designs are adaptable for multiple formats and platforms)

       
  4. Digital Creation
    • Create high-quality graphics and templates for social media campaigns, website banners, email headers, and digital advertisements to boost pre-event promotion, awareness and engagement
    • Develop customized backdrops, signage and visual displays for the event venue

       
  5. Merchandise Design
    • Design branded items such as badges, notebooks, tote bags or other selected products that resonate with the conference鈥檚 theme and heritage focus

       
  6. Interactive Visual Elements (Optional)
    • Develop interactive visual artworks, such as infographics or animations if required

 

Deliverables
The deliverables for this assignment include:

  1. Visual identity
  2. Comprehensive brand guidelines document
  3. Event and promotional materials 
  4. Merchandise designs 
  5. Optional: interactive visual elements

     

Timeline
The assignment is expected to commence on 05/03/2025 and conclude by 09/06/2025, with specific milestones and deadlines to be determined during the contracting process.

Qualifications
Applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Experience in graphic design with a relevant portfolio 
  • Familiarity with institutional branding (UN preferred) 
  • Ability to deliver high-quality work within tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication and project management skills
