The session will present main results to date of research conducted with as part of the UNESCO project in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Colombia, Indonesia and Kenya. It will in particular focus on how the national multistakeholder coalitions created as part of the project represent an innovative solution to content moderation issues at global, regional, and national level. Speakers will discuss how these coalitions can help bridge the gap between regulators, platforms, and civil societies.

The UNESCO Social Media for Peace project funded by the European Union aims to strengthen the resilience of societies to potentially harmful content spread online, in particular hate speech inciting violence while protecting freedom of expression and enhancing the promotion of peace through digital technologies, notably social media.
