The SICA Region is present at the UNESCO Multistakeholder Dialogue on Culture and Arts Education

This dialogue aims to promote the exchange of ideas on topics related to education, culture, and the arts, with the purpose of gathering contributions for the creation of the future UNESCO Framework for Cultural and Artistic Education.

The Educational and Cultural Coordination of the Central American Integration System (CECC/SICA), as well as the National University of Costa Rica (UNA) and the Cultural Association Teatro Espressivo (ACTE) from Costa Rica, have been present at the Multistakeholder Dialogue on Culture and Arts Education, convened by UNESCO, on May 25 and 26 at its Headquarters in Paris.

This Dialogue seeks to promote exchange on cross-cutting topics of education, culture, and the arts, in order to gather contributions for the development of the future UNESCO Framework for Cultural and Artistic Education. Through this event, the path is being prepared for the UNESCO World Conference on Culture and Arts Education, which will take place in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, in December 2023.

Mr. Abel Aronátegui, Culture Coordinator of the CECC/SICA, has been present at this Dialogue and has participated in the thematic session: "Access and Inclusion: Paving the Way for Plural, Equitable, and Resilient Societies", in which he presented the role of the CECC/SICA in articulating education and culture through regional policies, strategies, and actions.

In the same session, Ms. Natalia Rodríguez Mata, representative of the Cultural Association Teatro Espressivo (ACTE) from Costa Rica, participated and presented the various initiatives through which this association promotes social inclusion through theater, including the program "Theater Workshop for a Culture of Peace", which is supported by UNESCO.

In the thematic session "Creativity and the Creative Economy: Building relevant Technical Skills to Thrive" Ms. Vera Gerner, Coordinator of the Research, Art, and Transmedia Program (IAT) at the National University of Costa Rica, referred to the efforts made by the University to promote a greater social impact of artistic work, thereby improving the socio-economic conditions of artists.

Additionally, the National University of Costa Rica had the opportunity to present the project "Decent work conditions for young artists: formulation of a public policy proposal for Costa Rica " which is currently being implemented with funding from the UNESCO/Aschberg Program for Artists and Cultural Professionals.

The UNESCO Multilateral Dialogue on Cultural and Artistic Education has brought together more than 400 people over two days to exchange ideas on the integration of culture and education in the face of global challenges of the present and the future, in line with

UNESCO promotes an interdisciplinary approach to culture and education as part of a renewed vision of education based on respect for cultural diversity and human rights.
