National Internet Universality Indicators country assessment report for 2021 presented in Kazakhstan

The Internet Universality Indicators developed by UNESCO look at 5 key dimensions of national Internet environments: Rights, Openness, Accessibility, Multistakeholder participation, and Cross-cutting issues ("ROAM-X").

A Multistakeholder Advisory Board consisting of representatives of several government agencies and experts met on October 28 in Almaty, Kazakhstan, to present the National Internet Universality Indicators (IUI) country assessment report for the year 2021.

The Kazakhstan IUI is the result of the research led by Kazakhstan Internet Association. It assesses 109 core indicators developed under 6 categories, 25 themes, and 124 questions. The report provides information on the state of Kazakhstan’s Internet relative to the "ROAM" framework. It is the first ever such research in the country.

It should be noted that the report contains recommendations for all stakeholders on how to improve key indicators on the widest range of researched issues, which ultimately makes it possible to form a comprehensive program for the development of the Internet and digital services in the country for the coming years.

The assessment of ROAM-X indicators has been conducted using a multi-stakeholder approach. It will ultimately form the basis for policy reforms through policy recommendations.

The publication is supported by the International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC) under the "Kazakhstan: Measuring the Internet development" project submitted by Internet Association of Kazakhstan.
