Director-General urges investigation into the killing of Peruvian newspaper photographer Luis Choy-Yin
The Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, today deplored the killing of Peruvian newspaper photographer Luis Choy Yin Sandoval in Lima on 23 February and called for a full investigation into the incident.
鈥淚 condemn the killing of Luis Choy Yin Sandoval,鈥 the Director-General said. 鈥淎ttacks on media personnel which seriously undermine the ability of the press to fulfill their professional duties, must be investigated. I am confident that the Government will do everything possible to bring the perpetrators to justice for the sake of press freedom, which is essential for democracy and rule of law. "
Choy, a photographer for El Comercio newspaper was shot dead outside his home in Lima.
