Director-General condemns murder of journalists Wilguens Louissaint and John Wesley Amady in Haiti

UNESCO observatory of killed journalists

Audrey Azoulay, the Director-General of UNESCO, has denounced the killing of journalists Wilguens Louissaint and John Wesley Amady on the outskirts of the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince on 6 January.

I condemn the murder of Wilguens Louissaint and John Wesley Amady. I call on the Haitian authorities to spare no efforts in pursuing those responsible for this crime and bringing them to justice.

Reports suggest both journalists were reporting on violence in Laboule 12, an area disputed by several gangs, when they were attacked by a criminal gang, fatally shot and their bodies were burned.

Amady was a reporter for Canadian broadcaster Radio 脡coute FM while Louissaint worked for online media T茅l茅 Patriote and Tambou Verit茅.

UNESCO promotes the through global awareness-raising, capacity building and a range of actions, notably in the framework of the on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity.
