Director-General to Celebrate Heritage, Culture and Development in Viet Nam

The Director-General will celebrate the power of culture in development throughout her official visit to Vietnam from June 20 to 23, at the invitation of the Viet Nam Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the visit, the Director-General will meet with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and other high level leaders to discuss Viet Nam-UNESCO cooperation, formalized in the Memorandum of Understanding between Viet Nam and UNESCO for the period 2010-2015. She will attend the 5th Quang Nam Heritage Festival, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Heritage and coinciding with the second UNESCO Culture and Development Week in Viet Nam.

 At the Diplomatic Academy in Hanoi, she will receive a Doctor Honoris Causa and give a lecture on culture for peace and development.

While in Quang Nam 鈥 home to two World Heritage sites - the Director-General will attend numerous events, including  an award ceremony for the 鈥淲orld Heritage in Your Hands鈥 Art Contest, a nationwide contest encouraging young people to reflect on the importance of World Heritage, the launching of an exhibit on archaeological excavations in My Son, the opening of the restored G Group My Son monuments to the public, the inauguration of a Hoi An Tourism Information Centre, the launch of an exhibit highlighting achievements between the Quang Nam Province and UNESCO partnership to promote culture for sustainable development, and the opening ceremony of the 5th Quang Nam Heritage Festival in Hoi An.
