Director-General calls for investigation into killing of journalist Diego Charles in Haiti

UNESCO鈥檚 Director-General, Audrey Azoulay, has condemned the killing of journalist Diego Charles, alongside several other people in Haiti鈥檚 capital Port-au-Prince on 30 June.

I condemn this senseless violence, including the killing of journalist Diego Charles. I call on the authorities to investigate this crime and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. Society cannot thrive when criminals prevent journalists from exercising their professional duty to keep us informed.

Charles, a reporter for Vision 2000 radio and digital publication Gazette Ha茂ti, was shot dead in a spate of violence that also claimed the life of activist Antoinette Duclair and up to 13 others in the same neighbourhood, according to media reports.
