In-depth Webinar for Teachers. What do we understand by socio-emotional skills and how can we promote their learning in school?

On 1 August 2024, UNESCO Santiago, the Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, and its Latin American Laboratory for Assessment of the Quality of Education (LLECE) are organising this webinar. The event is based on the contents of the document "Aportes para la enseñanza de habilidades socioemocionales: Estudio Regional Comparativo y Explicativo (ERCE 2019)", launched on 9 July 2024. The publication analyses the results of the ERCE 2019 study, which for the first time measured empathy, openness to diversity, and school self-regulation in students from Latin America and the Caribbean.

The webinar is aimed at classroom teachers and education professionals, with the goal of enhancing and contributing to the development of their students' socioemotional skills, as these are also learned within the classroom and the role of teachers is key to fostering them.

The virtual session will be led by two specialists, Isidora Cortese and Violeta Meyer, who will provide pedagogical and practical tools based on the document to implement educational strategies focused on the explicit teaching of socioemotional skills in the school context that promote the holistic development of students.

The workshop will focus on the main models of these skills, how they are learned in school, and some methodologies for implementing explicit teaching activities in the classroom.
