OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

Under the overall authority of the Director of UNESCO Regional Office in Havana and the direct supervision of the Specialist of Culture, the incumbent is responsible for supporting the visibility of the UNESCO Havana activities at the UNESCO Havana website, the Portal of Culture of Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as the UNESCO Havana social networks.

More particularly, the incumbent will (among others):

Contribute to disseminate all the activities of the UNESCO Regional Office in Havana

鈥    Write and edit communication materials, such as press releases, living stories, publications, and social media posts,
鈥    Ensure clear and effective communication through written content,
鈥    Maintain web contents,
鈥    Update databases and media lists,
鈥    Facilitate effective internal communication within the organization,
鈥    Prepare presentations and reports related to communication efforts,
鈥    Coordinate the writing and editing process for the Office's annual report and other possible publications on culture as requested.

Maintain updated the social networks of the Office (Facebook, X and Instagram) 聽

鈥    Insert posts on all UNESCO programme activities, in a timely manner,
鈥    Disseminate calls and information of interest indicated by UNESCO Headquarters, the Director of the Office, and the programme specialists.
 

Maintain updated the Portal of Culture of Latin America and the Caribbean and the UNESCO Regional Office in Havana website

鈥    Gather information, with special emphasis in those activities and best practices related to the lines of action of UNESCO in Latin America and the Caribbean,
鈥    Prepare news items and information for all the sections of the Portal and the UNESCO Regional Office  in Havana website, when necessary,
鈥    Introduce the information in the Portal鈥檚 content management system (CMS) and in the UNESCO Regional Office in Havana website鈥檚 CMS when necessary.

 

Focal point of the Office in the Inter-Agency Communication Group of the United Nations System in Cuba.

鈥    Fulfil the tasks assigned as the focal point of the Office in the Inter-Agency Communication Group of the United Nations System in Cuba,
鈥    Participate in the regular meetings organized by the above-mentioned group,
鈥    Draft information on the activities carried out by the Office,
鈥    Provide inputs for the elaboration of the three-monthly newsletters of the United Nations System in Cuba.
 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

鈥    Bachelor鈥檚 degree in communication, Journalism, Arts, International Relations, Publishing Development, Law, Social Sciences, or another related subject.

Work Experience:

鈥    At least 2 years of relevant experience in one of the above-mentioned areas.


Skills/Competencies:

鈥    Excellent oral and written communication skills, with proven ability to draft clearly and concisely,
鈥    Advanced IT skills, excellent command of Microsoft Office tools,
鈥    Ability to manage websites and social media channels,
鈥    Strong interpersonal skills,
鈥    Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment,
鈥    Ability to manage a heavy workload and to meet tight deadlines, paying close attention to detail and quality of work.

Languages:  

鈥    Fluency in English and Spanish (written and spoken).

 

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Work Experience:

鈥    Experience in partnership, networking or direct work with a UN system agency, fund or programme would be desirable.

Skills/Competencies:

鈥    Prior general knowledge of UNESCO programmes would be appreciated.

Language Skills

鈥    Basic knowledge of French would be appreciated.
