International Jazz Day 2022
Created in 2011 by UNESCO, at the initiative of renowned jazz legend Herbie Hancock, the aims to highlight the contribution of jazz in promoting peace, uniting people and fostering cooperation around the world.
Following the success of the Biennale of Luanda Jazz Day in 2021, this year’s edition will have two main dimensions: a regional one with the involvement of Central African countries and a national one, taking place in Angola.
In Central Africa, Jazz day celebrations will be coordinated by the UNESCO office in Yaounde, involving most central African countries with virtual roundtables and debates on the values of jazz and Congolese rumba, concerts, and cultural activities, and will be broadcasted by national television channels.
Conversely, from the 29th of April till the 1st of May, Luanda will be the hub of concerts, exhibits and events held at the National Museum of Military History, organized by the partners of the Biennale and with the participation of Angolan and international artists. The celebrations of Jazz Day will be merged with which will give young African and Diaspora musicians and artists to perform and learn from each other. ResiliArt Angola is part of the global UNESCO movement to support the creative industries sector to overcome the challenges of COVID-19.
