Education in an interconnected world: Ensuring inclusive and equitable development (GEM 2018)

The 2018 Global Education Meeting (GEM 2018) was convened by UNESCO in its mandated role as lead agency and coordinator of the Education 2030 Agenda. Held in Brussels, Belgium, from December 3-5, 2018, with the support of the Belgian Government, the meeting reviewed progress towards the global education targets and commitments outlined in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Bringing together the global community, GEM 2018 aimed to identify strategic priority areas requiring political guidance and intervention to effectively achieve the Education 2030 Agenda. The event featured a variety of discussions at both the technical and ministerial levels, including:
Two roundtables on the interlinkages between SDG4 and other sustainable development goals.
Two ministerial roundtables on best practices and challenges identified by education ministers in implementing the goals at the national level.
Four high-level panels on inclusion, migration, the teaching profession, and skills for life and work.
Twelve thematic parallel workshops focusing on pre-primary education, financing quality education for all, TVET, higher education, and lifelong learning.
GEM 2018 gathered over 400 participants, including Ministers of Education and Development, representatives from over 60 countries, multilateral organizations, civil society, the teaching profession, youth, and the private sector. , agreed and endorsed at the meeting, sets the priorities for education for the next four years.
