Empowering Women in Water Diplomacy and Baseline Study of Ethiopia
Member
Description
For a successful outcome in water diplomacy, the inclusive participation of all stakeholders, especially women, is imperative. Despite the acknowledged essential role of women in peacebuilding, conflict management, and sustaining security, the role of women in water diplomacy-related decision-making has been underestimated. The water sector needs a balanced representation of women and men to equalize the influence in shaping priorities, pursuing common objectives, and reaching decisions. This is part of a comprehensive approach to water security that effectively addresses diversity, inclusion, social equality, and women鈥檚 role in the integrated and sustainable management of water resources. This study aims to empower women in water diplomacy, conduct a baseline assessment of women in water diplomacy, and strengthen the role of women in water diplomacy so far. This will help to know the status of women鈥檚 participation in water diplomacy, increase their overall water diplomacy capacities, and finally leverage the overall voice of women in decision-making bodies.
