Description: This webinar addresses the critical intersection of leadership development, Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Cities indicators, and the global objectives set forth in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The focus is on equipping current and future leaders with the knowledge and tools necessary to implement and measure the success of MIL city initiatives in urban settings. The discussion centers on how to use specific indicators and metrics to assess the progress of MILCities and align these efforts with the broader goals of the 2030 Agenda, including quality education, reduced inequalities, and sustainable cities. In fact, as cities across the globe face increasing challenges related to misinformation, digital inequality, and media manipulation, the need for informed and capable leaders has never been more pressing. Leaders must be adept at navigating the complex media landscape, fostering informed citizenship, and promoting digital literacy. However, the challenge lies in developing and implementing robust indicators and metrics that can accurately measure the effectiveness of MIL city initiatives within cities, while also ensuring these efforts contribute to the broader objectives of the 2030 Agenda.

L鈥檃valuaci贸 de les fonts de la informaci贸 requereix destresa i un pensament cr铆tic, i constitueix una tasca educativa que t茅 import脿ncia i que se subestima sovint.

Format: Online
Description: Please join us for a webinar organised by MILA as part of UNESCO鈥檚 Global MIL Week, on Thursday 31 October, from 15:30 to 17:00 UK time.
We will share our experience, in the UK, of developing a national initiative to advocate for media and information literacy (MIL), encourage capacity-building and help to build the MIL evidence base. The webinar will be introduced by a panel made up of six of MILA鈥檚 trustees: Irene Andriopoulou (ELIAMEP), St茅phane Goldstein (InformAll), Julian McDougall (Bournemouth University), Jane Secker (City St George's, University of London), Vicki Shotbolt (The Parent Zone) and Frances Yeoman (Liverpool John Moores University). We will address the challenges of raising awareness of MIL across society, not least among policymakers and educationalists; and of fostering collaborations between the different players that have an interest in MIL and associated literacies. We welcome the opportunity of sharing our thoughts and hearing about the experiences of webinar participants in the UK and internationally. Questions to consider might include for instance:
- What are the approaches to persuading stakeholders (public, commercial and third-sector) of the relevance and importance of MIL?
- What are the most effective mechanisms and strategies for developing a network or alliance?
- What are the concrete activities that a national MIL alliance might best undertake (e.g. undertaking research, building communities of practice, advocacy, etc.)?
- In a context where MIL is often seen as a protectionist measure against threats such as disinformation, how can stakeholders and society also be made aware of the empowering potential of MIL?
- How might such initiatives be resourced (money, people), in environments where funding is not always easily available?
We very much look forward to engaging with you. If you have any questions in advance of the webinar, feel free to contact us at media.infolit.alliance@gmail.com

A onipresen莽a desses dispositivos em nossas vidas produz novas sociabilidades e compromete a experi锚ncia humana.

Description: Addressing topics such as the environment and climate change in the digital sphere has become a battleground of narratives between science and pseudoscience. Scientists and communicators are mobilizing to understand and propose strategies for discussing these topics with evidence-based arguments. Alarmingly, scientific data reveal that large populations, organizations, and governments worldwide appear to have decreased, rather than increased, their willingness to act in accordance with scientific findings. In a society where communication is centered around social media, the challenge lies in citizens' ability to navigate these platforms鈥攁 key focus of this roundtable discussion. We will explore the promotion of media literacy as a strategy to combat scientific denialism.
