Urban Solutions
Last update:11 May 2023

Committed to taking initiatives, the UNESCO Cities Platform has launched two series of Urban Solutions on climate resilience and action. Given that urban challenges are multidimensional and intersectorial by nature, the Platform has adopted a transversal approach, which covers a broad scope of urban aspects such as cultural and creativity, education and learning, disaster risk reduction, social inclusion, and media and information literacy. The Urban Solutions are aimed at calling on cities and their inhabitants to take actions.

World Cities Day 2021: Adapting cities for climate resilience

As part of the World Cities Day 2021 celebration, the UNESCO Cities Platform has developed practical Urban Solutions to promote climate resilience and action in reflecting UNESCO's transversal approach to sustainable development and its fields of expertise. These solutions are tailored towards two levels of engagement and mobilization: one for city policymakers and the other for city inhabitants. Overall, the Solutions focus on countries most vulnerable to climate change, such as Small Island Developing States and African countries. This initiative aims to reach and mobilize key stakeholders, including Member States, their cities, and the general public.
