According to Observatory of Killed Journalists there have been no recorded deaths in Sweden since 1993.

Defending Free Speech

The Defending Free Speech Action Plan has been active since 2018. 

What activities are carried out? 

The Action Plan trains law enforcement agents on the detection of attacks against freedom of expression, online and offline, and the suggested courses of action to take. 

How is it implemented? 

The Action Plan is active at the national level, with the stated purpose of safeguarding democratic discourse engaged in by journalists, elected representatives and artists. The Plan aims to strengthen prevention efforts to reduce their exposure to threats and employs a gender dimension to the implementation of the Plan. 

Who are the stakeholders? 

The Action Plan is funded and monitored by the Swedish Government through its Ministry of Culture, and the various actions established by the plan are carried out by different state agencies.
