Safety of Journalists Toolbox
The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media (RFoM) launched the Safety of Journalists Toolbox in 2022.
What activities are carried out?
The Toolbox raises awareness of national instruments and initiatives from Participating States of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) regarding the safety of journalists and media freedom by making them accessible to interested stakeholders. The set of tools provides guidance to Participating States on how to strengthen and improve the implementation of applicable legal frameworks, including on how to develop National Action Plans on the safety of journalists and implement OSCE Ministerial Council Decision 3/18 on the Safety of Journalists.
How is it implemented?
The Toolbox is updated on a regular basis with the inclusion of new initiatives and measures of OSCE Member States. The Toolbox is the result of several roundtables on key themes related to the safety of journalists.
Who are the stakeholders?
The Toolbox is an initiative developed in partnership with Participating States, OSCE field offices, UNESCO, the Council of Europe and several civil society organisations.
