Safety of Journalists in Africa: The Digital Platform

The Digital Platform for the Safety of Journalists in Africa was launched on 29 January 2021. 

What activities are carried out? 

The Platform raises awareness on freedom of expression and access to information in Africa by reporting on attacks against journalists in Africa. The Digital Platform aims to help regional media networks and civil society organizations to build on their existing monitoring, verifying and reporting capabilities regarding violations of media freedom.

Who are the stakeholders? 

The stakeholders of the Platform are African Union Member States, media associations and networks in Africa, media development partners, and civil society organisations. These partners include International Media Support, Committee to Protect Journalists, International Press Institute, African Freedom of Expression Exchange (AFEX), African Governance Architecture, Free Press Unlimited, International Federation of Journalists, African Peer Reviewed Mechanism, BBC Media Action, Article19, the African Editors Forum and UNESCO.
