The cultural and creative industries (CCIs) rely on content production for its own development. The COVID-19 global pandemic has impacted the entire creative value chain – creation, production, distribution and access – and considerably weakened the professional, social and economic status of creators and cultural professionals. Facing with this rapidly changing context, new technologies and digital solutions plays an important role in offering larger audience and markets for cultural and creative practitioners. At the same time, a wider consumption of cultural good and services depend on high quality and diversified cultural content.

The Project aims to design new economic activities to link Gansu local cultural professionals and creators with new media platforms and business enterprises. To create new business models which not only embodies the traditional and creative cultural expressions, but also take the commercial value they may have into account. Work together with local experts, the Project team has identified four areas in which digital solutions can be useful for Gansu:

  • Marketing and sales of cultural products and services: analyze and summarize the strategy to boost e-commerce sales in culture sector
  • Promotion of Gansu destinations for sustainable tourism: increase exposure on different digital channels
  • CCIs empowerment: identify good practices in using digital solutions for CCIs and develop a digital roadmap for Gansu to successfully apply these good practices
  • Training and capacity building: capacity building training on digital skills and capacity building with the aid of digital technology
