Impact of Mining Activities on Women in Selected Regions of Mexico
Members
Description
Based on the base studies to determine potentially toxic contaminants (i.e., lead, cadmium, mercury, arsenic, etc.) and their distribution in mining regions with constructed risk maps, progress can be made by complementing the work by integrating the gender perspective. Given that in these mining regions, women are responsible for collecting water, cooking, and washing clothes in water bodies contaminated with acid mine drainage and poor management of mining waste. These have caused health problems related to infertility, abortions, and cancer.
