Global Teacher Campus
The Global Teacher Campus (GTC) provides free online courses for teachers and educators to improve their skills and competencies for different learning environments. These self-paced courses are facilitated by experts and cover topics such as digital pedagogy, social and emotional learning, psychosocial support, and curriculum management.
The GTC aims to help 1 million teachers gain digital skills and access professional development opportunities by 2025.
Globally, there is an urgent need for 44 million primary and secondary teachers. This includes a demand for seven out of ten teachers at the secondary level and a need to replace over half of the existing teachers leaving the profession. Sub-Saharan Africa is especially affected, with an estimated need for 15 million new teachers by 2030.
To achieve its goal, the GTC mission leverages UNESCO and partner relationships with training institutions as well as GEC-developed regional platforms, including and ImagineLearning. These platforms were developed to offer countries across Francophone and Anglophone Africa access to the GTC鈥檚 materials and facilitate the adaptation of content to local context and educational needs.
As of 2023, almost 800,000 teachers have already benefited from GTC initiatives and activities. The mission is evolving to help countries develop and offer their own digital professional development pathways to their teachers.

Our working model
Partners offer courses and resources to the GTC which are vetted using the GTC Course Framework. The GTC then collaborates with UNESCO field offices to identify and leverage existing infrastructure suitable for implementation and, working with teacher training institutions and local partners, all materials are contextualized to meet local needs. The implemented courses are then redeployed to countries looking for similar solutions.
Partner courses on offer
The GTC offers teachers, teacher educators, and teacher training institutions a curated online catalogue of self-paced and facilitated courses. All offers are free of charge. Teachers and teacher educators can access the self-paced courses by clicking the link provided.
These materials will provide guidance on contextual implementation steps, feasibility, and potential enhancements to ensure the platform鈥檚 long-term sustainability to the ministries responsible for course creation and validation on their national platforms.
Demonstrations on the screen user interface systems have been conducted with national bodies to ensure adoption and co-ownership processes. This process involved updating the platform to the latest open-source code of Open EdX, customizing it to enhance user management and user experience, content creation, content validation, and stakeholder analytics.
Inaugural implementation of the platform in Ghana
Ghana will be the first country to host the Global Teacher Campus (GTC) Platform locally. Customized courses and training modules will soon be available for both pre - and in-service teachers across Ghana via the national site.
In addition to global courses from the GTC content library, the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) and other relevant teacher training institutions will support teachers in developing their own content. Once validated, this localized content will be uploaded on the platform. Modules on ICT Essentials, based on the ICT Competency Framework for Teachers, are also being developed for teachers in Ghana, while existing learning platforms across the country have been identified to facilitate interoperability and system configuration. Teacher Unions platforms, including the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT), will support the nationwide rollout of the platform by mobilizing teachers to enrol.
