  • The  taking place from 1 p.m to 3 p.m in Room X, aims to promote the standard-setting activity of UNESCO and highlight Member States鈥 commitments to cooperate in the fields of education, culture, science and information, the  During this event, which is open to all delegations, Member States鈥 representatives will be invited to sign the conventions deposited with the Director-General and/or present to the Director-General their instruments of ratification to these conventions. 

  • The  will take place from 1:30 p.m to 3:00 p.m in Room I and online. Celebrating the 2021 laureates of the UNESCO-Japan Prize on Education for Sustainable Development, three laureates will receive USD 50,000 to expand their actions for further scaling up. The Prize and award winners recognize the role of education in connecting the social, economic, cultural and environmental dimensions of sustainable development. The core selection criteria are the projects鈥 potential for transformation, their innovative quality and ability to embrace all three dimensions of sustainability: the economy, society and the environment.

  • In commemoration of UNESCO鈥檚 75th anniversary, a presentation of the publication titled 75th Anniversary, UNESCO Art Collection, Selected Works will take place from 6:30 p.m to 7 p.m in Room I. This publication celebrates the Organization鈥檚 remarkable and diverse collection of artworks, including Picasso, Mir贸, Arp, Appel, Afro, Matta, Calder, Chillida, Giacometti, Moore, Tamayo, Soto, Vasarely, Cruz-Diez and many others. During this event, the DG will be joined by more than 100 experts, gallerists, curators, artists and directors of art foundations from all over the world who have contributed to this work to share the history of their art and the reasons for their donation. The art currently on display in UNESCO鈥檚 buildings bears witness to the richness of artistic diversity in the world over the past 6000 years. This publication features 75 selected artworks from UNESCO鈥檚 collection, which correspond to 75 critical concepts from UNESCO鈥檚 work, reflecting the cultural, geographical and temporal diversity of the heritage and symbolizing the power of the arts as a driver of the Organization鈥檚 mandate.

  • HR鈥檚 presentation Join UNESCO will take place from 3 p.m to 4 p.m in Hall Mir贸. The Bureau of Human Resources Management (HRM) will offer an opportunity for delegates participating in the General Conference to interact with HR officers. During this presentation, participants will get a better understanding of the profile of candidates that UNESCO is looking for; how to submit an application and prepare for a competencies-based interview as well as the different types of talent programmes that are implemented in partnership with Member States, academic, civil society and private sector entities (Loans and Secondments, Junior Professional Officer (JPO) Programme, sponsored trainees, etc.)

  • The elections of members of Committees, Commissions and other subsidiary organs established by the General Conference took place on 18 November 2021. For the results of the elections are available on the General Conference website here.

  • On the occasion of 2021 World Philosophy Day, the event , celebrated philosophy in all parts of our planet under the theme of intercultural philosophy for peace and sustainability in the time of crisis. The event comprised two plenary opening and closing sessions and five regional webinars organized in all UNESCO鈥檚 regions 鈥 Africa, Arab States, Asia and the Pacific, Europe/North America and Latin America and the Caribbean. The Worldwide Philosophical Relay-Race was opened by ADG/SHS together with the Minister of Education, Culture and Science of the Netherlands, and the initiators of this event Prof. Peter-Paul Verbeek, Chairperson of the World Commission on the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology (COMEST), and 惭谤&苍产蝉辫;贬别谤惫茅&苍产蝉辫;颁丑苍别颈飞别颈蝉蝉, Chairperson of the International Bioethics Committee (IBC). All regions then took their turn to deliver interactive sessions and pass the philosophical baton to the next region to reflect on the role of philosophy in helping make sense of the modern world and finding solutions to today鈥檚 complex global challenges. 

  • The launch event of  presented the status of linguistic diversity around the world, generating a renewed interest for more coordinated global actions towards preservation, support, and promotion of languages. Providing the international community with a new perspective for a more inclusive, comprehensive, and transversal understanding of linguistic diversity, WAL aims to stimulate further research and innovation, create demand for new language resources and tools, contribute to the formulation of language policies and legislation and forge new partnerships and collaboration among multiple actors. In the long-term, UNESCO WAL will contribute to implementing the Global Action Plan of the upcoming International Decade of Indigenous Languages (2022-2032), providing all stakeholders with the online tool and innovative methodology for assessing linguistic diversity worldwide. 

  • was organized under the patronage of UNESCO by 鈥淢arianna V. Vardinoyannis Foundation鈥 in collaboration with the Permanent Delegation of Greece. Celebrating the bicentenary of Greece鈥檚 Independence, this event featured personalities and members of academia. The first panel discussion examined 鈥淰alues and Ideals of the Greek culture鈥, and the second panel discussed 鈥淭he protection of Cultural Heritage鈥.

The installation ceremony of Audrey Azoulay as Director-General of UNESCO will take place in a special plenary meeting on Monday, 22 November at 3:00 p.m. in Room I.

  •  will take place from 6:45 p.m to 7:30 p.m in Room I. Created in 1995 and named after Melina Mercouri, famous actress and former Greek Minister of Culture, this Prize rewards outstanding examples of action to safeguard and enhance the world鈥檚 cultural landscapes that embody an enduring, intimate relationship between people and their environment. Awarded every two years, the laureate of the Prize, who may be an individual, an institution or a non-governmental organization, receives an award of USD 30,000.
