Highlights

  • The will take place from 16:00 to 20:00 in Room I, with a simulcast in Room II and online. Heads of State and Government will be front and centre with the Director-General during this unforgettable celebration, as they explore the role of UNESCO in advancing mutual understanding and international cooperation through education, science, culture and communication over the decades. Forest Whitaker, UNESCO Special Envoy for Peace and Reconciliation will deliver a keynote address. The celebration will feature world-renowned musicians and artists from every continent including, Renaud Capuçon, Guillaume Bellom, Farrah El Dibany, Issa Murad, Joussour, Juan Luís Guerra, Angélique Kidjo, Lang Lang, Ray Lema & Laurent de Wilde, Yo-Yo Ma, Aryana Sayeed, Jennifer Douzenel and Sebastião Salgad, who will take the stage to provide inspirational cultural interludes, culminating in a very special group photo.   • The Eiffel Tower will light up with the UNESCO logo to celebrate its 75th anniversary. The UNESCO logo and ‘75 years’ will be beamed onto the tower at 19:30 Paris time on Friday 12th November, the day on which UNESCO was formed of 20 member states in 1946. Today 91Â鶹¹ú²ú¾«Æ·×ÔÅÄ 193 member states. UNESCO is asking people all around the world to share images via social media of its logo on the tower as a symbol of hope for the creation of a more peaceful world.  If you pass by, take pictures and share them on social media with these tags #unescoGC #unesco75 #OurWorldOurHumanity. More than twenty Heads of State are expected to be present at a special celebratory ceremony on Friday 12th at UNESCO’s HQ in Paris.

Today

  • The high-level policy dialogue event ‘’ will take place from 08:30 to 09:30 in Room VII and online. This event will look at key developments on monitoring progress towards SDG 4, the global education goal, from a quantitative and qualitative perspective. Co-hosted by the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) and the Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Report, the event will offer an opportunity to build momentum around the development of national benchmarks for measuring progress towards SDG 4. 

  • As the annual meeting of UNESCO’s Global Education Coalition, the event ‘’ will take place from 13:15 to 14:45 in Room X and online and will bring together partners to share their projects, successes, and lessons learned since the launch of the Coalition in March 2020. This event will also be an opportunity to discuss the future of the Coalition and its next steps in supporting learning recovery, digital transformation and continuing to work towards SDG 4. 

Yesterday

  • The took place yesterday, bringing together donors and Education Ministers and representatives from CapED beneficiary countries, including 11 ministers. It was the first time CapED countries and donors were sitting around the same table since the outbreak of COVID-19. The meeting was therefore an opportunity for participants to discuss the education crisis caused by the pandemic, to share common challenges and good practices, as well as to make known their capacity development needs going forward. 

  • The event  was well attended by UNESCO Members States’ permanent delegations, showing great interest from many countries on the topics of health and education, comprehensive sexuality education and safe and inclusive learning environments. The event included a mix of pre-recorded messages and live presentations from government representatives, young advocates and teachers. In addition, the side-event featured some high-levels speakers, including: Ms Anna Ekstrom, Minister for Education, Sweden; Dr. J Armando Barriguete Melendez, Secretary General of the NATCOM of UNESCO; H. E. Ms Anna Brandt, Permanent Delegate for Sweden; Mr. Douglas Siakalima, Minister of Education, Zambia.

  • The Bureau of Human Resources Management (HRM) offered an informative session for participants in the General Conference to shed light on the profile of candidates UNESCO is looking for, the various HR partnership programmes UNESCO offers and provided guidance on the recruitment process and tips on preparing for a competency-based interview. Another information session will take place on Friday 19 November 2021 in Hall Miró VIP Lounge from 15:00 to 16:00.  

  • Two years after the adoption of the , the event co-organized by the Governments of Norway, Tunisia and the United Kingdom in cooperation with UNESCO renewed momentum around this global treaty and support Member States’ efforts to both ratify and implement it. The event highlighted the key benefits of joining the Global Convention, including facilitating the recognition of qualifications and the mobility and circulation of knowledge and research between countries. 

  • In the presence of H.E. Ms Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of Bangladesh and the Director General.  was awarded to the winner of the first edition, MoTiv, a Uganda-based integrated creative studio.  This Prize recognises and rewards exceptional initiatives of an entity that supports business skills development for young people in the field of the creative economy. More information on the Prize can be found .
