Description: This year marks the 30th anniversary of the decision of the United Nations General Assembly to proclaim an international press freedom day, with the message "Shaping a future of rights: freedom of expression as the engine of other human rights鈥. During 2023, the Observatory on the Right to Communication (ODC), together with academics from the FCEI, has been developing, under UNESCO's mandate, the research project "Application of Security Indicators for Journalists in Chile", within its International Program for the Development of Communications (PIDC), of which some results will be presented during this Seminar. Likewise, the Faculty of Image Communication is currently commemorating the 70th anniversary of the journalism school of the University of Chile, the first founded in the country.

Title of Event: Book Launch: Pluralismo TV. Medici贸n y an谩lisis del pluralismo en la televisi贸n chilena
Description: This book seeks to contribute to the debate on media pluralism, reviewing the national legal framework, proposing an operationalization of the measurement of news pluralism on television and discussing the results of its application. It includes recommendations for the implementation of legal obligations on pluralism and its translation into public policies that allow for greater democratization of the screen and of the television industry. It is the result of interdisciplinary work that arises from the intersection between communications, social sciences and law, addressing different facets of the problem: theoretical, political, regulatory, methodological and empirical. It has been published by Social Ediciones, a publisher of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Chile with the support of the Book and Reading Fund, call 2022. The main author is Chiara S谩ez, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Communication and Image of the University of Chile, together with a team made up of Jorge Avil茅s, Felipe Riffo and Javier Garc铆a. She also counts. with a foreword by Faride Zer谩n, National Journalism Award Winner and President of the National TV Council between 2022 and 2023. 7:00 p.m. at the GAM with the purpose of commemorating Press Freedom Day.

The press has become an indispensable player in ensuring transparency and accountability in electoral processes, by educating voters about their rights and responsibilities, and providing sufficient information about parties, policies, candidates, and electoral processes themselves so that their choices are informed and based on information, while exposing bad electoral practices by providing Objective and unbiased reports on the conduct of electoral processes and the detection of various electoral irregularities. Through investigative journalism, the press can reveal and expose any attempts to manipulate or influence the electoral process. Even in countries where democratic institutions are fragile and authoritarian tendencies prevail, no Journalism can still contribute to protecting the integrity of elections by providing rigorous and critical coverage of the electoral process.

Description: 鈥 His Lordship Justice Dennis Dominic Adjei, Justice of the Court of Appeal, will deliver a public lecture to be organized by the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, to commemorate this year鈥檚 World Press Freedom Day (WPFD 2023). The global theme for WPFD 2023 is: 鈥淪haping a future of rights: Freedom of expression as a driver for all other human rights鈥 However, Justice Adjei, who is also Justice of the African Court on Human and Peoples鈥 Rights based in Arusha, Tanzania, will address the local theme: 鈥淔reedom of expression: A driver for all other human rights for Ghana鈥檚 development鈥. A flag-raising ceremony will follow the public lecture, all of which will take place at the Forecourt of the Ghana International Press Centre in Accra. The ceremony will be chaired by Mrs Gifty Affenyi Dadzie, a former President of the GJA and Member of the Council of State. Ministers of state, Members of Parliament, members of the Diplomatic Corps, media partners, media practitioners, media trainers and students are expected to attend the ceremony.
