Description: América Latina y el Caribe fue la región más mortífera para los periodistas en 2022, con 44 homicidios, más de la mitad de todos los asesinados en el mundo. México encabeza la lista de los países que registraron un mayor número de homicidios con 19 asesinatos, seguidos por Ucrania con diez y nueve en Haití.

Los comunicadores comunitarios forman pues parte del colectivo más vulnerable y con menor protección de una profesión de por sí ya víctima de altos índices de violencia. A menudo sin el respaldo de un medio de comunicación que pueda proteger su seguridad, los/las comunicadores/as comunitarios/as de diversos países de la región deben hacer frente a amenazas graves no sólo para el ejercicio de su profesión sino también para la protección de sus vidas y las de sus familias.

En este marco, el análisis de las iniciativas para promover la seguridad de los periodistas más vulnerables de todo el colectivo resulta de particular importancia en el contexto del Día Internacional para poner fin a la Impunidad de Crímenes contra Periodistas.

En este conversatorio se repasará la situación actual de los/las comunicadores/as comunitarios/as y se debatirá con las organizaciones de la sociedad civil y del Sistema Interamericano de Derechos Humanos abocadas al tema las mejores estrategias para responder a las necesidades específicas de este colectivo.

Sin embargo, aún es necesario afinar las respuestas y construir mecanismos que brinden un abordaje coordinado sobre esta situación en la región.

El panel tiene como objetivo repasar de manera colectiva e interdisciplinar los desafíos que se presentan a la hora de abordar estos desafíos. Un Panel integrado por periodistas y especialistas, así como organizaciones que trabajan con periodistas, intercambiarán sobre los desafíos que se presentan ante esta situación en la región.
