Climate change education at COP29
During the held in Baku, Azerbaijan, as the Secretariat of the Greening Education Partnership, UNESCO will be continuing to advocate for the critical role of education in global climate action discussions.
The Greening Education Partnership is pleased to join the discussions on education’s contribution to climate readiness and will be part of events planned for Human Development Day on 18 November under the banner of “Human Development for Climate Resilience”.

The working groups meetings will mark the kick-off of the global consultation process on the first drafts of the two remaining guidance documents, the Greening Teacher Capacity Policy Dialogue Tool and the Greening Communities guidance document.
COP29 High-Level Meeting on the Baku Initiative on Human Development for Climate Resilience

The High-Level Meeting is jointly organized by COP29 Presidency, Ministry of Science and Education, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Population, Azerbaijan; UNESCO, WHO, ILO, UNICEF, World Bank. During the event, a joint statement on and Baku guiding principles on Human Development for Climate Resilience will be announced. This initiative aims to deliver various outcomes on human development, including catalyzing investment in education, skills, health, and well-being, in particular for children and youth, establishing COP-to-COP continuity, and enhancing environmental literacy through education standards.
COP29 Ministerial Roundtable on greening education and enhancing climate literacy metric
2nd Annual Meeting of the Greening Education Partnership

A Roundtable on Greening Education will be hosted by the Ministry of Science and Education, Azerbaijan and co-organised by the OECD and UNESCO. The meeting will also serve as the second Annual Meeting of the Greening Education Partnership. It will focus on highlighting the role of greening education in achieving the three major priorities of the COP29 Presidency – nationally determined contributions (NDCs), financing and country level implementation.
Delivering Climate Change Education: The Critical Role of Youth and Educators

Recognizing young educators as an often-overlooked group in youth-related initiatives, the COP 29 Presidency Youth Climate Champion organized the COP 29 Climate Change Summer Camp, which brought together an international cohort of 75 educators from 35 countries in Baku, Azerbaijan, to build a community of practice to incorporate climate change education in their teaching effectively and engagingly. This event discusses the critical role of youth and educators as catalysts of change and recaps the initiative and outcomes of COP 29 Climate Change Summer Camp. It also highlights their key role in the global greening education movement.
