World Heritage experts held online webinars for the finalists of the Second International UNESCO Model

The online webinars for the finalists of the were held on June 12-15, 2023. In accordance with a jury decision, out of over 200 talented young individuals, who submitted videos describing their national heritage sites, 35 participants with the highest levels of creativity and preparation have been selected.

These young delegates, representing 20 different countries, will have a unique opportunity to showcase their skills and demonstrate their in-depth knowledge of the UNESCO World Heritage. The role-playing game, scheduled for July 22-23 of this year in Kazakhstan, will serve as a platform for engaging interactions and idea exchange among the participants.

The chosen delegates had an exceptional chance to delve into the realm of World Heritage and enhance their understanding of it through the organized series of online webinars facilitated by experts, who generously imparted their valuable knowledge and experiences.

The webinar topics covered various aspects of the World Heritage, including:

  • World Heritage Convention鈥檚 mechanism鈥 with Ms. Nao Hayashi, Programme Specialist at the Secretariat (UNESCO);
  • "World Natural Heritage and its Inscription on the World Heritage List" with Elina Maltseva, M.Sc., Member of Kazakhstan's National Committee for UNESCO World Heritage;
  • "World Heritage Diversity and UNESCO Volunteer Camps" featuring Nargiz Aituganova, Research Associate at the , Uzbekistan, and a member of ICOMOS; and
  • "Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage 1972: Transnational Serial Nominations on the World Heritage List: Silk Road" with Dmitriy Voyakin, Director of the International Institute for Central Asian Studies.

After the webinars, participants will continue their learning with introductory sessions scheduled from on July 14th, 2023. These sessions aim to provide a deeper immersion into the topics and prepare participants for the upcoming stages of the event. 

It is important to note that the Second International UNESCO Model 鈥淲orld Heritage鈥, organized by the in cooperation with the Kazakhstan National Commission for UNESCO and ISESCO, and UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office, has been granted again the UNESCO patronage.
