UNESCO remembers Constantin Chera
UNESCO and its Scientific and Technical Advisory Body to the 2001 Convention (STAB) regret the passing of its former Chairperson and member Mr. Constantin Chera. Former Director of the Museum of National History and Archaeology in Constanta, Romania, and reputed expert, he dedicated his research to his region鈥檚 history and was also an engaged promoter of the protection of submerged archaeological sites.
Ms. Barbara Davidde, current Chairperson of the STAB, underlined: 鈥淐onstantin Chera鈥檚 commitment to international cooperation was exemplary. He was to us all a great colleague and it is a true loss that he passed so early. All of us at the Advisory Body, that fight for the better research, stronger academic principles of protection and a better recognition of underwater cultural heritage by the public, feel that we have lost a friend and pilar in this task. The UNESCO 2001 Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage has lost a champion.鈥
