UNESCO Regional Office in Cairo strengths cooperation with the National Organisation of Urban Harmony (NOUH) to discuss roadmap of cooperation for culture

Dr Nuria Sanz, Officer in Charge of the UNESCO Regional Office in Cairo met Dr Mohamed Abuseada, Director of NOUH of the Ministry of Culture in Cairo on 28 August 2023. Over the years, UNESCO Cairo Office has developed strong partnership NOUH in the area of culture and heritage preservation.
Dr Nuria Sanz, Officer in Charge of the UNESCO Regional Office in Cairo met Dr Mohamed Abuseada, Director of NOUH of the Ministry of Culture in Cairo on 28 August 2023. Over the years, UNESCO Cairo Office has developed strong partnership NOUH in the area of culture and heritage preservation.

NOUH made a presentation with the updated information of programmes and projects related to the listing of 7000 buildings in Egyptian urban and rural areas, registration of public spaces, standard setting guidelines for intervention on built heritage and urban fabric, along with NOUH work in World Heritage sites as Historic Cairo and Luxor, among others. Both institutions discussed the opportunities to cooperate with different governorates and on how to strengthen their support to the High Council of Planning of the Ministry of Housing. The discussions evolved around the challenges and opportunities for the management of multi-layered and living city of Historic Cairo, and the ways of striking balance between protection and regeneration through multi-stakeholder coordination. In this connection, Dr Abseada has expressed his appreciation to the outcome of the recent working group meeting on Historic Cairo convened by UNESCO and presented his continued support.

As for the Safeguarding of Hassan Fathy鈥檚 New Gourna project, the meeting discussed the objectives and agenda of a forthcoming technical mission to assess the completed works and to prepare the results of this significant milestone.

Both institutions agreed on the need to design training programs for masters and young generations on the maintenance and preservation of earth architecture skills in New Gourna shortly.
