UNESCO opens a new Youth Information Centre in AlMafraq

In coordination with the Ministry of Education, the UNESCO Office in Amman inaugurated a new Youth Information Centre in Al Rabee鈥 Bint Muwath School at Al Mafraq, Northern Jordan. Within the framework of a Finnish funded regional project to promote Freedom of Expression, His Excellency Mr. Matti Lassila, the Ambassador of Finland in Beirut launched the Centre on Thursday, which was supported in partnership with Tech Tribes. This initiative is integral part of the resilience based approach that aims at strengthening the capacity of national institutions to provide Jordanian and Syrian students, and particularly young female students, with increased access to information through innovative , more interactive and ICT based educational activities. Within the framework of a Finnish funded regional project to promote Freedom of Expression, His Excellency Mr. Matti Lassila, the Ambassador of Finland in Beirut launched the Centre on Thursday, which was supported in partnership with Tech Tribes.
This initiative is integral part of the resilience based approach that aims at strengthening the capacity of national institutions to provide Jordanian and Syrian students, and particularly young female students, with increased access to information through innovative , more interactive and ICT based educational activities.
The Centre, which consists of two computer labs and a library, has been established with a core of 15 Teachers newly trained as new platform that can result in long-lasting impact and facilitate collaborative education. The computer labs have been newly-renovated and equipped with 40 PC鈥檚. The school library has been upgraded with new furniture and resources have been enriched with new books and an audio library to be utilized by teachers.
Training of teachers (TOT) workshops have been organized to introduce concepts of collaborative online access to information, online search and Internet literacy, among other topics, into the school programme, thus increasing the capacities of teachers.
