UNESCO at the New Delhi World Book Fair 2023
UNESCO New Delhi was part of the many exhibitors who participated in the 31st edition of New Delhi World Book Fair (NDWBF). The Fair is organized by , an autonomous organization of the Government of India in collaboration with India Trade Promotion Organization and was held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi from 25 February to 5 March 2023. It’s one of the major calendar event in the publishing world.
The Fair provided UNESCO an opportunity to showcase publications in all its fields of competence, offering a chance to visitors to go through over 100 titles ranging from education, natural sciences, social and human sciences, culture and communication and information. In addition, it was ideal platform to meet other UNESCO enthusiasts and to update them on UNESCO’s recent as well as upcoming programmes and activities. Over the course of the Fair, over 2000 visitors approached UNESCO’s stall to enquire and seek information on its publications and programmes. A selected list of UNESCO publications both for distribution and sale were on display at the Fair.
These books and publications were browsed by people of different ages and a wide range of professional backgrounds. Many students and teachers were particularly happy to pick up copies of the UNESCO in India map, World Heritage Sites of India map, and information brochures on various UNESCO initiatives. Amongst other visitors, students pursuing Journalism and Mass communication programmes showed particular interest in the journalism and gender titles. The office flagship ‘State of the Education Report for India’ was mostly picked by research students and experts working in this field.
Above all, there were passionate readers who just wanted to add to their personal collection and some of their favorite picks were: The braided river: the universe of Indian women in science; Incredible treasures: World Heritage sites of India; and Handmade for the 21st Century: safeguarding traditional Indian textiles.
With India celebrating 75 years of Independence, Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of progressive India. With various activities marking the Festival across the country, the NDWBF 2023 has chosen Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav as its theme, and with many literary and cultural activities around the theme organized during the fair days.
