UNESCO Director-General meets Mayor of Istanbul Honorable Kadir Topbas
On 7 January, 2015, the UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova met with the Mayor of Istanbul Honourable Mr Kadir Topbas, in Istanbul, Turkey. This took place in the framework of the Director-General's official visit to Turkey.
This meeting provided an opportunity to discuss cooperation in safeguarding and promoting the shared cultural heritage of humanity.
The Director-General was briefed by Mayor and the relevant authorities at the Municipality of Istanbul on the state of management of the Istanbul World Heritage site, which celebrates its 30th year in 2015.
The Mayor expressed his deep commitment to safeguarding the unique heritage of Istanbul for the benefit of generations, today and tomorrow. The Director-General thanked the Mayor, highlighting the importance of Istanbul for all women and men.
