UNESCO Director-General deplores death of journalist Adel Zorob in Palestine

Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, has deplored the death of freelance journalist Adel Zorob in Rafah, southern Gaza, in Palestine on 19 December 2023.

I deplore the death of Adel Zorob and call for a thorough and transparent investigation. I reiterate my urgent call on all parties to respect UN Security Council Resolution 2222 unanimously adopted in 2015 on the protection of journalists, media professionals and associated personnel as civilians in situations of conflict.

Adel Zorob worked as a freelance journalist for multiple media outlets, including Al-Aqsa Voice Radio. He was reportedly killed at his home, together with 25 family members, in an airstrike.
