UNESCO Director-General condemns killing of Juan Jumalon in the Philippines

I condemn the killing of Juan Jumalon. Journalists must be protected in the exercise of their activities, and I call on the national authorities to bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice.

Jumalon, also known as DJ Johnny Walker, was the regular host of a radio programme on 94.7 Gold Mega Calamba FM. He was fatally shot at a home-based radio station while broadcasting. The president of the Philippines condemned the killing and ordered an investigation.
