UNESCO Director-General condemns killing of journalist Jesús Alberto Camacho Rodríguez in Mexico

I condemn the killing of Jesús Alberto Camacho Rodríguez and call for a full and thorough investigation to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice. Impunity for crimes against journalists must not be allowed to prevail, regardless of the time it takes.

Jesús Alberto Camacho Rodríguez worked as a journalist for several media outlets, including El Imparcial, Extra de la Tarde, Tribuna del Yaqui and El Regional de Sonora. Various reports indicate he went missing sometime between 2018 and 2020, and his remains were identified in Culiacán on 20 February 2025.
