UNESCO Director-General deplores the death of journalist Anna Prokofieva in Russia
I deplore the death of Anna Prokofieva and call for a thorough and transparent investigation into the circumstances. I reiterate my call for the observance of international humanitarian law, including United Nations Security Council Resolution 2222 on the protection of journalists, media professionals and associated personnel in situations of conflict, a status reaffirmed in the UN Pact for the Future.
Anna Prokofieva was a correspondent for Russian State TV Channel One. She was reportedly on assignment in the Belgorod region of western Russia when she ran over a landmine that killed her and injured her cameraman.
