Speaking on the importance of culture and arts in education, Dr. Bissoonauth stated, 鈥The transformative power of culture and arts in education go beyond traditional classroom learning, making education more engaging and fostering lifelong learning, including in technical and vocational education and training (TVET). With the cultural and creative industries generating 50 million jobs worldwide, this sector presents vast opportunities for young people.鈥
She underscored that beyond employment, culture plays a vital role in shaping resilient, inclusive societies she reiterated that 鈥淐ulture and arts also contribute to holistic development, resilience, and social cohesion. They instil critical thinking, identity, and respect for diversity鈥攅ssential for building inclusive societies.鈥
The global recognition of culture in education continues to grow. UNESCO鈥檚 Framework for Culture and Arts Education promotes inclusive access to quality learning, ensuring that diverse communities can benefit from the richness of cultural expression. The Mondiacult 2022 Declaration marked a historic shift by recognizing culture as a global public good, urging governments to integrate it into economic, social, and environmental policies.
