UNESCO and Regional Partners in Latin America and the Caribbean reaffirm their commitment to work together to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals
The Regional Partners Forum for Latin America and the Caribbean held in Panama organized conferences, panel discussions, and networking to exchange experiences.
UNESCO held its first Regional Partners Forum for Latin America and the Caribbean in Panama City, October 3-4, 2019. The event was an invitation to current and potential partners to engage with the Organization to build an agenda in order to promote universal peace and to achieve the ambitious goals of the programs in education, culture, science and communication and information.
At the opening ceremony, the Deputy Director-General of UNESCO, Mr. Xing Qu, highlighted the essential role of UNESCO and its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 鈥淭hese goals require strong and decisive support, not only from the public sector, but also from the private sector, civil society, businesses, and individuals. The UNESCO Programmes demonstrates our ability to mobilize a range of partners in an integrated approach to addressing environmental issues, as well as addressing a diversity of solutions and knowledge, including local and indigenous knowledge. The benefits of achieving the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs will bring great returns on investments made in Education, Culture, Science, and Communication and Information. This, in turn, will lead to more prosperous and just societies,鈥 said Mr.Xing Qu.
