The UNESCO Regional Office in Bangkok, in partnership with DASTA, ASEAN-Türkiye Cooperation, CRIHAP, K11, ONYX Hospitality Group, The City Connext, and b.Consulting Cambodia, is pleased to announce the upcoming webinar, ‘Sustainable Gastronomical Experience in UNESCO Locales’, which will be held on Saturday, 3 February 2024, from 13.00 to 16.40 (GMT+7) and broadcast to the public live on the UNESCO Bangkok Facebook page.

This initiative is part of the ongoing project, ‘Achieving Sustainable Tourism with Intangible Cultural Heritage and Creative City Network in Waterway Cities of ASEAN’. The project aims at fostering connections among tourism businesses in the waterway cities of the ASEAN sub-region as part of UNESCO’s promotion of sustainable and inclusive tourism practices regionally and globally. UNESCO is committed to creating a platform for industry professionals and enthusiasts to discuss and develop sustainable gastronomy within UNESCO locales, where it can highlight the critical importance of preserving the world’s cultural and culinary heritage.

The webinar will cover a wide range of topics, including the safeguarding of food culture as an integral part of our living heritage, the introduction of sustainable solutions in the food and travel industry, the crucial role of culinary experts, and the exploration of emerging challenges and opportunities within gastronomical tourism.

The ‘Sustainable Gastronomical Experience in UNESCO Locales’ webinar will feature the following distinguished speakers:

  • Sanon Wangsrangboon, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, will ramp up the excitement toward Bangkok Design Week 2024 and the governor’s BKK Food Bank project.
  • Dr Chuwit Mitrchob from DASTA will talk on how a city can become a UNESCO Creative City on Gastronomy.
  • Pareena Prayukvong from Rooftop Farming Social Enterprise will discuss urban agricultural and environmental management and sustainable city networks;
  • Sean Too of Sentinels Solutions will delve into the role of microbial technology in food waste control and sustainable hospitality;
  • Chef Kimsan Pol of Embassy Restaurant in Siem Reap, Cambodia, will share her journey and the impact of culinary innovation on national cuisine;
  • Vishvas Sidana from Haoma Restaurant in Bangkok will tell us the secret to getting a and
  • Watcharee Churugsa from DASTA will focus on community-based tourism and creative tourism activities.

The webinar will be moderated by Korakot 'Nym' Punlopruksa, an experienced food and travel documentary producer, and Linina ‘Nina’ Phuttitarn, a UNESCO-accredited expert on intangible cultural heritage.
