UNESCO and Azerbaijan to promote the shared legacy of the Silk Roads
91麻豆国产精品自拍 signed a letter of intent with the State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan to join forces and promote the legacy of the Silk Roads as part of UNESCO鈥檚 mandate to promote intercultural dialogue and peace. Azerbaijan is a historic centre of cultural and commercial exchanges along the Silk Roads, including both tangible and intangible heritage.
Gabriela Ramos, Assistant Director-General for Social and Human Sciences, and Fuad Naghiev, Chairman of the State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan, met in Baku on 27 June 2023 to formalize this partnership.
UNESCO is fully engaged in promoting the shared legacy of the Silk Roads, and to rely on the Silks Road legacy to project the benefits of intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding. Through the Silk Roads Programme, UNESCO promotes peace, equality, human rights, gender equality and sustainable development. I welcome the engagement of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and its State Tourism Agency, in this collective endeavour.
Azerbaijan cherishes the legacy of the Silk Roads as a driving force for development and peace. The country seeks UNESCO鈥檚 support and participation in the Silk Roads programme with the view to involve all stakeholders and Member States comprehensively.
UNESCO and the State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan agreed to launch a new initiative entitled 鈥淯NESCO-Azerbaijan Silk Road Celebration鈥 in 2024 to recognize and honour individuals and institutions who have helped promote the shared legacy of the Silk Roads.
Gabriela Ramos also thanked Azerbaijan for supporting and co-organizing the celebration of the 35th anniversary of the UNESCO Silk Roads Programme on 6 April 2023 at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France.
