Project
Tiny Desk Adventures
Asha de Vos is one of Sri Lanka’s leading marine biologists. To encourage young people to get involved and help preserve the ocean’s precious resources, she decided to share her knowledge and enthusiasm. The result? Oceanswell, a marine conservation research and education organisation that plunges people into the magic of the oceans, giving future generations the tools to fight for and protect them.
Inspirational role models
She realised that the lack of involvement and enthusiasm in marine sciences wasn’t helped by the absence of role models to inspire the island’s young people. So, during lockdown, she worked with marine specialists from across the world to create a series of videos, entitled Tiny Desk Adventures. The experts shared their passion and areas of expertise – from whales to coral and shipwrecks – and answered questions from participants during live digital events.
Although the videos primarily targeted young people in Sri Lanka, they are available online via the Oceanswell website for everyone – marine enthusiasts young and old.
