Third edition of UNESCO's global Small Island Developing States dialogues series on water - Caribbean and AIS Regions
Small Island Developing States (SIDS) are facing significant challenges in securing freshwater, aggravated by climate change. These countries are among the most water-scarce globally, with seven out of ten SIDS at risk of water shortages. This is especially true for low-lying SIDS, where nine out of ten are facing water scarcity. To help address these issues, UNESCO is organizing the third edition of UNESCO's global Small Island Developing States (SIDS) dialogues series on water focused on the theme “Promoting water resilience in Small Island Developing States.”
This event is part of UNESCO’s ongoing dialogue series on SIDS, bringing together Heads of State, government officials, UN agency representatives, regional and multilateral organizations, development banks, the private sector, and civil society.
The third dialogue aims to share challenges, experiences, and solutions while calling on partners to support water resilience initiatives in SIDS. It also contributes to the UNESCO 2023-2029 operational strategy for SIDS, specifically accelerator programme 2 on oceans and water.
The event will be held on 28 November for the Caribbean and Atlantic Ocean, Indian, and South China Sea (AIS) in a hybrid format (Room XI, UNESCO Headquarters).
