STEM Boot camp officially opened
Rwanda鈥檚 Minister of State in charge of Primary and Secondary Education, Honourable Gaspard Twagirayezu, officially opened the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) Boot camp in Kigali, Rwanda. The week-long boot camp, which is part of the African Regional Science, Technology and Innovation Forum, is running under the theme: 鈥淩e-imagining and Re-thinking STEM Education in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.鈥
In his remarks, the Minister applauded the timing of the boot camp as Rwanda is currently promoting the application of Science, Technology and Research, within the agenda of the National Strategy for Transformation, for sustainable development of Rwanda, and Africa at large. He went on further to highlight the socio-economic improvements pushed by STEM in Rwanda, including improvements in health, renewable energy, agriculture and information, communication and technology infrastructure.
About 140 students and teacher trainers from schools in Kigali are taking part in the STEM boot camp, focusing on Robotics, Microscience, and 3D printing, and how these Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies can be applied to solve Africa鈥檚 problems. The boot camp was organized by Rwanda National Commission for UNESCO (CNRU) in partnership with UNESCO and local stakeholders including the Ministry of Education (MINEDUC). The boot camp will run until 4 March at FAWE Girls School in Kigali.
