This Day was set by the decision of the UN Department of Public Information in 2010.

Its celebration, along with the days of the other official UN languages, was welcomed by the UNGA in 2017 – the importance of advocacy and raising awareness inter alia by proclamation and celebrations of language days with due consideration to United Nations General Assembly resolution 71/328 was noted by UNESCO Executive Board in 2022.

It is the second time (first was in 2023) when the Russian Language Day is celebrated at the Organization’s Headquarters.

At 3 p.m. Room I opens the doors for Delegations of Member-States, Observer Missions, Secretariat and the guests of UNESCO for an official opening ceremony to be followed by the Gala concert with the participation of soloists, choir, musicians, dancers and ballet artists.

Linguists and interpreters working with the Russian language are welcomed for practical training in the current Russian discourse at the hybrid seminar (Room VIII and online at 10 a.m.).

Live transmission

Organized by the Permanent Delegation of the Russian Federation together with the Permanent Delegations of the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Belarus, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan.
