The Regional Network of First Aid Volunteers for the Protection of Documentary Heritage is a UNESCO initiative that seeks to protect documentary heritage from natural disasters such as fires, earthquakes, storms, and floods, as well as other challenges such as lack of resources and obsolete technology.
The Network seeks to involve volunteers to provide support to memory institutions in emergency preparedness, emergency response, and recovery after a disaster.
This initiative is related to UNESCO's Memory of the World Program and complements the UNESCO Recommendation for the Safeguarding of Documentary Heritage, Digital Heritage, and Access to it.
Activities
- Coordinate, evaluate, and promote the initiative at the regional level.
- Develop online courses, workshops, and training on risk management and related topics.
- Provide technical support for the protection and safeguarding of documentary heritage.
- Provide feedback to volunteers, archives, libraries, Ministries of Culture, and other key actors.
- Promote and recognize the work of volunteers.
Results
Trained individuals in risk management for emergency situations and the protection of documentary heritage.
Volunteers aid memory institutions in disaster readiness, response, and recovery.
Coordination mechanisms to support memory institutions in emergency situations.
