In the framework of the UNESCO 1970 Convention, this event builds on the outcomes of the dialogue organized by UNESCO on 27 June 2023, in Paris (France), which explored innovative agreements and partnerships for the return and restitution of cultural property. It will bring together representatives of the Member States of the Central American region, international experts, museum professionals, and cultural heritage practitioners to foster collaborative approaches to improving return and restitution processes.
An Open and Inclusive Dialogue
Building on the commitments of the MONDIACULT 2022 Declaration and the , this dialogue aims to:
Foster the return and restitution of cultural property to countries of origin;
Highlight recent and exemplary cases of international collaboration;
Strengthen the capacities of Member States and cultural heritage professionals by sharing practical examples, innovative tools, and best practices.
This dialogue will also be used to feed into the World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development - MONDIACULT 2025, which will take place in Barcelona, Spain, from 29 September to 1 October 2025.
